From busking to touring and session bass playing
As a working musician I have played well over 1000 gigs over 30 years in all kinds of venues from pubs to clubs & large corporate events in the UK and Europe. I have worked with many bands both writing/producing original material and working function bands.
I’m currently on bass & acoustic guitar for Sweetpea Music, I’m still developing and learning as a musician & I enjoy passing on musical skills to anyone with an interest. I can help you to develop as a bass player & musician whether you are a beginner or have been playing for a number of years. My experience as a working musician means I understand all the aspects of playing in a band or recording in a studio.
Music Technology
I studied music technology at Leeds College of Music & have also studied music theory, although I am a big believer that bass guitar lessons should be about making music rather than studying scales.
Guitar Tech
I know how a bass works too, with help from respected guitar luthier Gordon Whitham, founder of Gordon Smith Guitars, I hand made a bass guitar. A custom Musicman Stingray, which is still my preferred recording bass.
Music Production
In 2001 I put a load of songs online with the vocal tracks removed and inadvertently set up a music production company, when the BBC came to me to ask to buy some music for a TV production. It followed with a small online business selling stock music for TV and multimedia. I ended up selling music I had made in my small bedroom studio to the likes of Computer Arts, Sony, Granada TV, Phones 4U, Playboy & the BBC.
